BNP candidate-alliance, independent Jamaat in Barisal

Desk report,

BNP candidate-alliance, independent Jamaat in Barisal

Although there is a BNP candidate-jam in six seats in Barisal, Jamaat-e-Islami has already finalized candidates for all the seats. There are 6 parliamentary seats in this district with 10 upazilas and Barisal City Corporation. The names of at least 30 potential BNP candidates are being heard in these seats. Most of them are in the field in various ways. Many others are not officially in the field, but are preparing internally. This has divided the leaders and workers of BNP in various ways.

Various political parties, including BNP, are quite active in these seats around the upcoming 13th national election. However, outside of BNP, the organizational activities of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Andolan Bangladesh are noticeable. Apart from this, the organizational activities of the National Citizen Party (NCP) can be observed slightly, but there is no election-oriented activity at all.

In the new reality after the fall of the Awami League government, the politics of Barisal is mainly revolving around BNP. However, the lack of a conference for a long time and the conflict over leadership have stagnated party politics and divided it in various ways. However, the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate is largely independent. The Islamic Movement of Bangladesh, led by Charmonai Pir, does not have this problem either.

BNP has more than one candidate in each of the six parliamentary constituencies of Barisal. In addition to the differences over the party’s leadership and influence in the area, it has now increased again around election-centric politics.

Although Jamaat and BNP have participated in the elections in alliance in the past, this time Jamaat is fielding separate candidates. On June 21, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Naib-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher announced the party’s list of candidates for 21 seats in the division, including Barisal.
